Good morning, W.Y.R. neighbors!

A quieter week doesn’t mean an empty one. With Martin Luther King Jr. Day bringing town closures and moments of reflection, there are still plenty of ways to stay connected and in the know around town and beyond.

In today’s edition of The WYRe:

  • Rolesville Spring sports registration opens for non-residents

  • Wake Forest is getting a skate park

  • Time to burn those Christmas trees

  • Weather for the week, live music, and more!

Let's get to it.

THE DIGEST

Martin Luther King Jr. Day - January 19th, 2026

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, local municipalities across our area are observing the holiday by closing town offices and adjusting public services. Dr. King’s legacy reminds us that service to community, justice, and equality are acts we live out every day β€” including through civic participation and care for our neighbors.

As a result, Wake Forest, Rolesville, and Youngsville town offices will be closed all day, with Wake Forest noting service impacts such as changes to trash collection and the Wake Forest–Rolesville Express (WRX). Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and take a moment to reflect on Dr. King’s enduring message of unity, service, and hope.

What’s Coming to Wake Forest? A Skate Park and Pump Track!

Wake Forest is planning a major new outdoor recreation destination next to Joyner Park: a state-of-the-art skate park and pump track designed for all skill levels. The project is currently in the planning and design phase, shaped by extensive community input, with construction expected to begin later this year and completion targeted for November 2027.

The facility will include a continuous pump track for bikes, skateboards, and scooters, plus features designed for competitions and events β€” making it one of the largest and most unique skate parks in the state. The project supports Wake Forest’s growing focus on recreation, wellness, and quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
