THE DIGEST

Art Putt 2025 - Public Art Mini-Golf

📍 City Plaza (434 Fayetteville St, in front of Truist)

Source: downtownraleigh.org/public-art/artputt

Looking for a fun and artsy outing without spending a dime? Stop by downtown Raleigh’s Art Putt—a nine-hole mini‑golf course that doubles as a public art installation, designed by Artsplosure in partnership with Downtown Raleigh Alliance.

Each green is a playful tribute to NC culture, dreamed up by local artists like Robyn Scott, Zac Bender, and Sara Pritchard under the clever theme “SURRALEIGHIST”.

Top Tip: It’s free to play, but you will need a lockbox code to access the putters and balls.

WHAT’S HAPPENING

Friday

Friday Night On White - Wake Forest

Source: wakeforestnc.gov

Wake Forest’s signature summer street party is back! The Band Punch will headline this free outdoor concert from 6–9 PM along South White Street. Bring lawn chairs or blankets, enjoy live music, and dance in the street. Downtown restaurants will be open late, and a lineup of 15+ food and dessert trucks will be on site to satisfy every craving. Beer is available from local breweries (White Street Brewing and Norse Brewing) within the event area. This family-friendly monthly event draws a big crowd – it’s a don’t-miss community night out in Wake Forest!

Rolesville Friday Fun – Trivia & Spelling Bee

If you’re in Rolesville Friday evening, two unique events offer grown-up fun:

Greenway Trivia Night – Greenway Beer and Wine (519 S. Main St.) hosts Trivia Night at 6:30 PM. Assemble a team (or bring your significant other) and test your knowledge over drinks in a relaxed setting.

Adult Spelling Bee – Think you’re a spelling whiz (after a glass of wine)? Artisan Beer and Cheese (110-A Bluestone Xing) is holding an Adult Spelling Bee at 7:00 PM. This light-hearted competition is 21+ and makes for a quirky date night or girls’ night.

Raleigh Fringe Festival

Get ready for three days of the weird and wonderful. The Raleigh Fringe Festival returns to the Theatre Raleigh Arts Center this weekend with an offbeat lineup of performances that push creative boundaries in all the best ways. Think puppetry, live comedy, indie films, a kid-friendly cabaret, and even late-night burlesque if you’re out for a spicy date night.

This is fringe with heart: the vibe is welcoming, experimental, and community-first. So, whether you’re a theatre lover, an artsy soul, or just curious, this is your chance to discover something completely unexpected and local.

Saturday

Raleigh Summer Beats Festival

Can’t make it to the beach this weekend? No worries – downtown Raleigh is bringing beachy vibes to City Plaza on Saturday. Summer Beats Festival runs 11 AM–8 PM (free admission) on the 400 block of Fayetteville Street. Expect a full day of fun in the sun: a food truck “rodeo” with plenty of eats and treats, beer and wine tasting tents, games and prizes, and even a cutest dog contest, plus a best vacation couple costume contest. There will also be a snowball fight, and of course, there will be live music all day to keep the crowd dancing. It’s an all-ages street festival to groove your way through a summer Saturday.

Wake Forest Farmers’ Market

Kick off Saturday with fresh local flavor. The Wake Forest Farmers Market is open 8 AM–12 PM every Saturday (rain or shine) behind Town Hall on South Taylor Street. Browse farm-fresh produce, pasture-raised meats, local eggs, honey, baked goods, and handmade crafts from area vendors. It’s a great morning outing for families – grab a coffee, let the kids pick out veggies, and meet your neighbors.

Barn Bash - 10th Anniversary - Youngsville

Celebrate a decade of community and country charm at JAKS Stables’ Barn Bash in Youngsville. On Saturday from 4—9 PM, Enjoy live music from Jason Michael Carroll, plus Davis88 and Trey Rich, all set on a beautiful farm with food trucks, a mechanical bull, bounce houses, cornhole tournament, and a laid-back family vibe.

Tickets are $30 at the gate (kids 10 and under are free). Early purchase of tickets for $20 and VIP options are available. Proceeds support The Samson Project, which offers equine therapy for trauma recovery. It’s a feel-good night of fun, music, and purpose. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the summer evening.

Sunday

“Second Sundays” Market – Rolesville

This outdoor market brings together a curated mix of local businesses and artisans, including some new shops and eateries coming soon to the Cobblestone Village. You’ll find everything from unique handmade goods to delicious local treats. It’s free to attend and extremely family-friendly: kids and pets are welcome.

SPORTS

Both of our local minor league baseball teams have been at home this past week:

⚾ The Carolina Mudcats hosted the Fredericksburg Nationals at Five County Stadium in Zebulon in a six-game series running July 8–13. If you went to a game, you enjoyed affordable family fun (and maybe a Mudcats victory or two!). The series wraps up Sunday with an afternoon game, and don’t forget, Friday night games usually feature fireworks after the final out.

⚾ The Durham Bulls have likewise been home all week at the DBAP, facing the Nashville Sounds July 8–13. The Bulls always put on a great show – between Wool E. Bull’s antics, kids running the bases, and that hit-the-bull win-a-steak sign, it’s a classic summer night out. (Saturday’s game is followed by fireworks as well.) If you missed them this week, the Bulls will be back for another homestand later this month.

Soccer Showdown with an International Twist: The NC Courage welcomed a powerhouse visitor on Wednesday, July 9. The Courage played Tigres UANL Femenil (one of Mexico’s top women’s teams) in an international friendly at WakeMed Soccer Park. It was a hard-fought match that ended in a 0–0 draw, called off in the 77th minute due to stormy weather.

More Soccer: The men’s team, North Carolina FC (NCFC), has a home match on Friday, July 11, at WakeMed Soccer Park. They’ll be taking on the Birmingham Legion FC in USL League play. If you’re looking for a fun, affordable sports outing Friday night (and maybe can’t make it to Wake Forest’s downtown concert), tickets to NCFC games are family-friendly in price and atmosphere. The match kicks off at 7:30 PM – go cheer on the local lads!
