Good morning, W.Y.R. neighbors! Championship week, neighbors: the Carolina Hurricanes are Stanley Cup champions!!! The victory parade rolls through downtown Raleigh on Saturday. Closer to home, Wake Forest throws its Juneteenth Celebration at the DuBois Center on Saturday, and Folkknot brings a six-piece folk sound to the Listening Room on Friday night. Rolesville stacks its farmers’ market and a free community Game Night onto the same Saturday, and Youngsville’s library lands award-winning children’s author Kelly Starling Lyons on Tuesday. Sunday is Father’s Day, so save room for Blackbird’s deck and the Youngsville farmers market at the Yacht Club. One practical heads-up: it is hot and stormy most of the week, but Saturday looks sunny and clear, which is perfect timing for the parade and Juneteenth.
In today’s edition of The WYRe:
The Stanley Cup parade and a Father’s Day weekend headline the region
Wake Forest’s Juneteenth Celebration takes over the DuBois Center on Saturday

Weather for the week, sports, live music, and more!
Let's get to it.

THE DIGEST

🏆 Stanley Cup Championship Parade & Rally 📍 Downtown Raleigh, ending at City Plaza | Saturday, June 20 | 11 AM to 3 PM | FREE
Congratulations to the Carolina Hurricanes! The Canes are champions, and Raleigh is throwing the party. The city has declared Saturday “Carolina Hurricanes Day,” and the championship parade winds through downtown before a rally at City Plaza where fans hear from the players and coaches who ended a 20-year wait.

This one will be enormous, so plan like it. Parking is free at five downtown decks (Cabarrus St., Moore Square, City Center, City Hall, and Wilmington St. Station), and the city is encouraging GoRaleigh and GoTriangle transit to beat the crush. Text CANESPARADE to 888777 for real-time traffic, weather, and safety updates.

🎉 Wake Forest Juneteenth: Fire of Freedom Friday, the DuBois Center Celebration Saturday 📍 Alston-Massenburg Center and DuBois Center, Wake Forest | Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20 | FREE
Wake Forest marks Juneteenth across two days. Friday night, the Renaissance Centre’s free Arts for All series brings Mike Wiley’s acclaimed one-man performance “Fire of Freedom” to the Alston-Massenburg Center, 416 N Taylor St, at 6:30 PM. It tells the true story of Abraham Galloway, who escaped slavery to become a Union spy, abolitionist, and political leader. Seating is limited and first come, so get there early.
Then Saturday, the town’s Juneteenth Celebration takes over the historic DuBois Center, 518 N Franklin St, from 11 AM to 4 PM with music, food, and community at one of Wake Forest’s most meaningful local landmarks. One heads-up: the Town has flagged road impacts near the DuBois Center from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM Saturday, so give yourself a minute around N Franklin Street. Go early, bring water, and plan for the heat.

🎸 An Evening with Folkknot 📍 Wake Forest Listening Room, 119 Brooks St, Wake Forest | Friday, June 19 | doors 6:45 PM, show 7:30 PM | $16.95
The Listening Room does what it does best on Friday night: a real, seated, listen-to-the-music show. Folkknot is a Greensboro six-piece that layers harmonies and acoustic textures into something bigger than a typical bar gig.
If you have never done a Listening Room night, this is a good one to start with. It is intimate, the sound is excellent, and the room rewards people who actually want to hear the band. Grab tickets ahead, because these shows do sell out.
🎲 Saturday in Rolesville: Farmers Market and Game Night 📍 Cobblestone Village and hOMe Yoga Studio, Rolesville | Saturday, June 20 | market 9 AM to 1 PM, Game Night 6 to 9 PM | FREE
Start the morning at the Downtown Rolesville Farmers Market at Cobblestone Village, with 25-plus vendors at 108 S Main Street from 9 AM to 1 PM. Then come back in the evening for a free, family-friendly Game Night hosted by Wake Forest Pride at hOMe Yoga Studio and The Winebrary, 6440 Rogers Road, from 6 to 9 PM.
📚 Youngsville Library Welcomes Award-Winning Author Kelly Starling Lyons 📍 Youngsville Branch Library, 218 US-1A Hwy S, Youngsville | Tuesday, June 23 | 4 to 5 PM | FREE
The Youngsville branch library lands a real draw this week. Award-winning children’s author Kelly Starling Lyons stops in Tuesday afternoon for the library’s Afternoon Adventures program, reading her picture book “Riding Magic,” the story of a young girl who conquers a big fear with the help of her family and a horse named Magic. Lyons has written more than 30 books for young readers, so this is a nice one to put on the calendar if you have early readers at home.
