Good morning, W.Y.R. neighbors!
Twenty-five years since September 11, and all three of our towns are marking it in their own way. Wake Forest opens the final Friday Night on White of the season with a commemoration ceremony before Liquid Pleasure takes the stage; Rolesville runs its Runs to Remember 5K at exactly 8:46 Saturday morning and follows it with an Honor and Remembrance ceremony at the elementary school; and Bud’s Tavern in Youngsville hosts a 65-mile police-escorted Ride for Freedom for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation with bands on the patio all day. Sunday, the Concerts in the Park series closes out at Joyner Park with The Band Next Door. Downtown Raleigh is in full Hopscotch mode Thursday through Saturday if you want the big-festival version of the weekend.
In today’s edition of The WYRe:
Friday Night on White closes its season with a 9/11 commemoration and Liquid Pleasure
Rolesville Runs to Remember at 8:46 AM Saturday, then the ceremony at Rolesville Elementary
Youngsville’s Saturday: Ride for Freedom at Bud’s, an art festival at Grace Haven, and a Red Light Party at Burnt Barrel
Weather for the week, sports, and more!
Let's get to it.
— Dave & Egle
THE DIGEST

🎸 Friday Night on White Season Finale: 9/11 Commemoration + Liquid Pleasure 📍 South White Street, Downtown Wake Forest | Friday, September 11 | 6 to 9 PM | FREE
The last Friday Night on White of 2026 lands on the 25th anniversary of September 11, and the Town is opening the night with a commemoration ceremony: Mayor Clapsaddle, the Wake Forest Honor Guard, “America the Beautiful” by Angela DiPaolo and Will Woltz, and the national anthem by Mayia Warren. Then Liquid Pleasure, the Triangle’s longest-running party band, plays the street out for the season.

🏃 Rolesville Runs to Remember + 9/11 Honor & Remembrance Ceremony 📍 Redford Place Park, 121 Redford Place Dr (race) and Rolesville Elementary, 307 S Main St (ceremony) | Saturday, September 12 | 5K 8:46 AM, 1-mile walk 9:03 AM, ceremony 10 AM to 1 PM | FREE
Rolesville times its remembrance to the minute. After a moment of silence, the Runs to Remember 5K starts at 8:46 AM, when the North Tower was struck, and the 1 Mile Walk for Heroes steps off at 9:03, when the South Tower was hit. Registration closed on the 6th, so if you didn’t sign up, come cheer along the route, then head to Rolesville Elementary for the Honor and Remembrance Ceremony from 10 to 1. It’s open to everyone, and first responders are encouraged to come in uniform.

🏍️ Saturday in Youngsville: Ride for Freedom, Art at Grace Haven, and a Red Light Party 📍 Bud’s Tavern, 823 Youngsville Blvd; Grace Haven, 726 Hicks Rd; Burnt Barrel, 135 W Main St | Saturday, September 12 | 10 AM to 11 PM | Mostly FREE, $40 for the Burnt Barrel party
Youngsville stacks a full Saturday. Start at Grace Haven Baptist Fellowship’s annual Art Festival from 10 to 3 on Hicks Road. At Bud’s, the Ride for Freedom benefits the Tunnel to Towers Foundation: registration 11 to 1, kickstands up at 1:30 for a 65-mile police-escorted ride, with Tripwire and Towers Ride playing the patio from noon to 3, plus food, drinks, vendors, and raffles. Don’t ride? Come for the send-off and the music, then stick around because Soul Sauce plays Bud’s from 8 to 11 that night.
And if wine is more your speed, Burnt Barrel hosts an Orin Swift Red Light Party from 7 to 11: tastings with the Orin Swift reps and heavy appetizers, $40, 21 and up.

🎶 Concerts in the Park Finale: The Band Next Door 📍 E. Carroll Joyner Park Amphitheater, 701 Harris Rd, Wake Forest | Sunday, September 13 | 5:30 to 7:30 PM | FREE
The second and final Concert in the Park of the year brings The Band Next Door, the Raleigh six-piece cover band that won WRAL’s Best Local Band in 2025, to the amphitheater by the pecan grove. Bring chairs or a blanket, a picnic if you want, or hit the trucks: JDub’s PoBoys, Charlie’s Kabobs, Butcher’s Market, YoYo FroYo, and Little House Lattes are scheduled. Leashed pets are welcome; no alcohol.

🎤 Hopscotch Music Festival 📍 Downtown Raleigh: City Plaza, Moore Square, and the club venues | Thursday, September 10 through Saturday, September 12 | Evenings, plus free day parties | 3-day pass $179, single-day passes available
Raleigh’s biggest music weekend is back with 102 acts across City Plaza, Moore Square, Kings, Lincoln Theatre, Nash Hall, Neptunes, Slims, and The Pour House. Dexter and the Moonrocks, Cory Wong, King Princess, Soccer Mommy, Duckwrth, and Momma headline the outdoor stages, and the free Hopscotch day party series runs at bars around downtown all weekend if you’d rather sample it without a pass. If a festival crowd isn’t your thing, the Carolina Circus Festival at Downtown Cary Park is free Saturday from 3:30 to 9:30 PM with aerial acts, acrobatics, fire, and LED shows.

🏈 SPORTS 🏈
Pick Your Friday Night: Cougars at Home, Wolfpack Under the Lights
Friday is a rare double-header for Wake Forest football fans. The Cougars (1-2) host Wakefield at Trentini Stadium at 7, coming off a 14-7 loss at Millbrook, and this is the most winnable game on the local slate: Heritage already beat this same Wakefield team 30-28 in August. The Huskies (1-2) have a tougher road trip, at Walter M. Williams in Burlington at 7, after back-to-back shutout losses. Rolesville has the week off and returns home September 18 against Corinth Holders for the conference opener.
Meanwhile, NC State opens its home schedule the same Friday night against Richmond at Carter-Finley, 7 PM on ESPNU, badly needing a clean game after the 34-8 flop at Virginia. Saturday, UNC (1-0) hosts East Tennessee State at noon on ACC Network in its home opener, and Duke (1-0) travels to Illinois at 3:30 on FS1.
Sunday, the Panthers open at home against the Bears at 1 on FOX. Friday’s forecast has storms possible in the evening, so bring the poncho to the bleachers either way.
