Good morning, W.Y.R. neighbors! This is the big one: America turns 250 this weekend, so we’re blowing out our usual map and taking you across the whole Triangle for it. Fireworks light up somewhere every night from Thursday through Sunday: the Durham Bulls open a four-night run Thursday, our own Wake Forest Fireworks Spectacular packs Heritage High on Friday (Swingin’ Medallions and a 9:30 show), and Saturday the Fourth goes off everywhere at once, from Rolesville’s Redford Place Park to Cary’s symphony over Symphony Lake to the city’s big show at Dix Park.
The headliner for the 250th itself is downtown Raleigh, where the state throws Capitol 250: NC Freedom Fest on the Capitol grounds with a noon ceremony, living history, and a First in Freedom parade right beforehand. One heads-up that really matters this year: it is going to be brutally hot, with highs near 102 to 103 Friday and Saturday, so sunscreen, water, and a shady spot are not optional.
Let’s celebrate!

THE DIGEST

🇺🇸 Capitol 250: NC Freedom Fest 📍 N.C. State Capitol grounds, 1 E Edenton St, Raleigh | Saturday, July 4 | 10 AM to 4 PM (ceremony at noon) | FREE
This is the official one: North Carolina’s birthday party for America’s 250th, right on the Capitol lawn. Expect a noon Independence Day ceremony, NC songwriters Tift Merritt and Rissi Palmer, the 82nd Airborne All-American Brass Quintet, a living-history encampment, historic trolley tours, archival documents on display inside the Capitol, and 50-plus vendors and food trucks. Pair it with the First in Freedom parade that rolls down Fayetteville Street at 9:30 AM a block away, then stick around downtown for the Dix Park fireworks that night. It is the single best way to mark the actual 250th in person.

🎆 Wake Forest Fireworks Spectacular (53rd Annual) 📍 Husky Stadium, Heritage High School, 1150 Forestville Rd, Wake Forest | Friday, July 3 | Gates 5:30 PM, fireworks around 9:30 PM | FREE
Our hometown headliner and one of the region’s biggest local shows (15,000-plus people). The Swingin’ Medallions, beach-music legends since 1962, hit the stage at 6:20 PM, with 20-plus food and dessert trucks all evening and a patriotic intermission around 7:30 PM (Honor Guard, National Anthem, and a veteran-led Pledge of Allegiance for the 250th). Park free at Heritage High, Heritage Middle, Heritage Elementary, or Hope Lutheran, and do not park on Forestville Road or Foundation Drive. Bring chairs and blankets, leave the pets, glass, and alcohol at home, and carpool, because it fills up fast.

🎇 Rolesville 4th Celebration 📍 Redford Place Park, Redford Place Dr, Rolesville | Saturday, July 4 | Festival 5 to 9 PM, fireworks 9:15 PM | FREE
Rolesville does the Fourth right at Redford Place Park. Police & Thieves play from 6 to 9 PM, there are around 14 food trucks (Smoken Souls BBQ, Two Roosters Ice Cream, Kona Ice, and more), beer and wine from Tar Banks and Bearded Bee, inflatables and yard games for the kids, and a 9:15 PM fireworks finale right overhead. Get there before 8:30 PM so the kids catch the inflatables before they shut down, and expect road closures around Redford Place Drive for the show. Parking and rain-plan details were still being finalized, so check with Rolesville Parks & Rec the week of.

🎻 Cary Presents: Independence Day Celebration 📍 Koka Booth Amphitheatre, 8003 Regency Pkwy, Cary | Saturday, July 4 | Gates 3:30 PM, fireworks 9:25 PM | FREE lawn (reserved seats for sale)
The most 250th-fitting night of the week. The North Carolina Symphony plays patriotic favorites at 8 PM and the fireworks go up over Symphony Lake at 9:25, but the afternoon is the real treat: a live reading of the Declaration of Independence with Mike Wiley and Dawn Landes at 6:45, NC Poet Laureate Jaki Shelton Green’s ode to NC 250 at 5:30, and the Cary Town Band at 4:15. Lawn admission is free, picnics (plus beer and wine) are welcome, and there are about 1,500 free parking spaces, so arrive when lots open at 2:30. A DJ dance party with LED robots closes it out.

🎆 Raleigh’s Fourth of July Fireworks at Dorothea Dix Park 📍 The Big Field, Dorothea Dix Park, 2105 Umstead Dr, Raleigh | Saturday, July 4 | Gates 6 PM, fireworks 9:30 PM | FREE
The city’s flagship show, themed to the 250th with ABC11, with DJs, live music, lawn games, inflatables, and food vendors before a big finale over the Big Field. Important: there is no public parking at Dix Park this year. Take the free Park & Ride shuttle from Moore Square (last outbound 9 PM, $10 downtown deck parking) or grab limited free parking at NC State’s Centennial Campus. Blankets and small soft-sided coolers with snacks are fine, but no alcohol.

⚾ Durham Bulls: America’s 250th Birthday Celebration 📍 Durham Bulls Athletic Park, 409 Blackwell St, Durham | Saturday, July 4 | Game 6:45 PM, fireworks 9:15 PM | Game sold out (free viewing nearby)
Durham’s official Fourth is at the ballpark, where the Bulls take on the Gwinnett Stripers, and the city sends up the region’s biggest show afterward. The game itself is sold out, but the fireworks are free to watch from the grassy area behind Diamond View 3, outside Burt’s Bees, or from Tobacco Road Sports Cafe and Ponysaurus Brewing, and ticketless fans can often get in free after the 7th inning if there is room. Park free in the Corcoran and Church Street garages. It is one of four straight Bulls fireworks nights, July 2 through 5.

🎆 Apex Fireworks Frenzy 📍 Hunter Street Park, 1250 Ambergate Station, Apex | Friday, July 3 | 4:30 to 10 PM, drone show around 8:45, fireworks around 9:30 | FREE
Apex moved its whole celebration here this year (the downtown Olde Fashioned Fourth is off for construction), and it is the most kid-loaded option on the calendar. There is a Parade of Wheels (decorate a bike or wagon and line up at 4 PM), a Fire Department Splash Down, a Kids Zone with inflatables, food trucks down Hunter Street, and something new: an Apex-only drone light show around 8:45 ahead of the fireworks finale. There is even a sensory-friendly room at the Senior Center from 8 to 10 PM. Free parking along Apex Peakway and the Town Hall lots.

🎆 Franklin County’s America 250 Fourth of July Fireworks 📍 Louisburg Magnet High School, 201 Allen Lane, Louisburg | Saturday, July 4 | Gates 5 PM, fireworks after dark (around 9:15) | FREE
Up north, Franklin County throws its America-250-branded fireworks night at Louisburg Magnet High. Expect a DJ at center field, children’s activities, and a deep food-truck lineup (recent years brought Corner Boys BBQ, Mr. Puebla Tacos, Frostbites, and a Cinnabon truck). Park in the campus lots and carpool, and note the school-grounds rules: no glass, alcohol, pets, tents, or shade structures. Gate and fireworks times follow last year’s pattern, so confirm the week of.
