There’s a chill in the air and it’s perfect timing for the first real fall weekend ahead! Saturday is Oktoberfest day everywhere you look: Blackbird runs it from noon to 11 PM with stein hoisting and three bands, Norse opens at 11 AM with a $25 limited-edition mug, and Youngsville’s Yacht Club throws Yachtoberfest from noon to 6 PM with polka on the patio and Polish sausages from the Boat House. Youngsville also gets its biggest day of the year the same morning: the 21st Fall Festival and Car Show fills Youngsville Academy from 9 AM to 3 PM with vendors, food, and cars.
Downtown Wake Forest hosts the fourth annual Mental Wellness Fair at the Renaissance Centre Saturday afternoon, free, with a 3 PM panel on kids, screens, and mental health. Rolesville’s week is quieter, with the Chamber’s Business After Hours tonight and the Winebrary’s book clubs, so this is a good week to make the drive to a neighbor town. And Tuesday night the Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes raise the banner at Lenovo Center against the very team they beat for it.
Weather note: a little light rain is possible today, then it’s sunshine straight through the weekend and into next week, with highs in the 70s and nights in the 40s and 50s. Bring a layer for the evening Oktoberfest sets.

Twenty-one years in, this is Youngsville’s signature day: a car show, local vendors, food, and entertainment spread across the Academy grounds from 9 to 3. The car show is the draw for the dads and the kids alike, and the vendor rows are where you do your early holiday shopping without a Capital Boulevard trip. Come early for the best parking and the cars still gleaming, then roll a mile up the road to Yachtoberfest at the Yacht Club for the afternoon, and if you still have gas in the tank, Panic Point’s Haunted Forest on Cedar Creek Road opens its box office at 7:30 for its second night of the season. Blackbird goes biggest: German-style releases, stein hoisting, The Butcher’s Market on site, Stick and Poke beers, and three bands across the day (Tom Neuhauser on accordion at noon, Jimmy Deve at 3, and The Adam Lee Decker Band at 7). Norse opens at 11 downtown with a limited-edition Oktoberfest mug for $25 that includes your first pour. Youngsville’s Yacht Club runs Yachtoberfest from noon to 6 with Wolfpack Sound playing polka from 2 to 5 and Ditka Polish sausages from the Boat House. If you want a fourth, Compass Rose in North Raleigh has a free one from noon to 6 with a giant pretzel eating contest at 12:30, stein holding at 2, and best outfit at 3:30. Saturday is 77 and sunny, so the patios will be full.

🧠 Wake Forest Mental Wellness Fair
📍 Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S Brooks St | Saturday, September 26 | 1 to 4 PM | FREE
The fourth annual fair focuses on youth mental health this year. More than 30 vendors and advocates fill the Renaissance Centre, with free refreshments while they last, free WakeMed blood pressure screenings, a healthy cooking demo from NC State Extension with the Ripe for Revival mobile market in the parking lot, and Wake Forest PD’s crisis intervention officers and resource vehicles on hand. The programming is the reason to go: teen-led breakout sessions at 1:45 (one on social media burnout) and a 3 PM panel called “Plugged In: Conversation about Kids, Technology, and Mental Health” with the Wake County Youth Health Council. Preregistration is encouraged but not required.

🌮 Worth the Drive: Downtown Raleigh’s Festival Saturday

If you want a downtown day, Saturday stacks up. The City’s Raleigh Tamale Festival fills Moore Square from 11 to 2, free, then NC Oktoberfest takes over Fayetteville Street from 1 to 8 with more than 30 breweries, 40-plus food trucks, and live music (free to walk in, drink tickets extra). And if you’d rather sit down for a show, Buena Vista Social Club plays DPAC through Sunday, Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz play Walnut Creek Saturday at 7, and Gov’t Mule with Ziggy Marley play Red Hat the same night.

The Stanley Cup banner goes to the rafters at Lenovo Center before the puck drops at 5 PM against the Florida Panthers, the team Carolina beat for the Cup, as the opener of ESPN’s season-opening tripleheader. The early start is a national-TV quirk, so leave work early or find a screen by 4:45; the ceremony is the part you will not want to miss.
On the gridiron, it is a bye week for both Wake Forest schools (the Cougars are 3-2 after a 35-0 shutout of Hillside, Heritage is 1-4 after a 29-25 loss to Holly Springs), so Friday belongs to Rolesville: the Rams (1-2, coming off a 48-7 win over Corinth Holders) travel to Millbrook at 7. Saturday, NC State (1-2) hosts App State at Carter-Finley at 7:30 on ESPNU, the first Wolfpack-Mountaineers meeting in 20 years, and Duke (3-0) hosts William & Mary at 3:30. UNC has the week off.
