🌳 Friday Night on White, Zootopia 2, Canes Game 5, and NC-98 Construction Update

Good morning, W.Y.R. neighbors! Big, hot summer week ahead: Friday Night on White brings Night Years downtown, Joyner Park has Zootopia 2 on the lawn, Joey McCrea Wiggins Park, formerly Taylor Street Park, reopens Saturday morning. On the traffic side of things, NC-98/Wait Avenue work is still worth planning around, and a longer NC-98 closure east of town starts Monday.

🎸 Friday Night on White: Night Years 📍 Downtown Wake Forest | Friday, June 12 | 6-9 PM | FREE

Wake Forest’s biggest monthly downtown block party is back Friday night with Night Years on South White Street. The town’s concert page lists the June show from 6 to 9 PM, with festivities along South White Street wrapping around 9:30 PM.

This one draws a crowd. Streets close early, chairs should not go in the road until after 4:30 PM, and beer and wine sales start in the event footprint at 5 PM.

🛝 Joey McCrea Wiggins Park Opens Saturday 📍 416 N Taylor St, Wake Forest | Saturday, June 13 | opens 7 AM | FREE

This is a big one for Wake Forest families. Joey McCrea Wiggins Park, formerly Taylor Street Park, opens Saturday with a new accessible playground and upgraded sprayground.

The park was renamed in honor of Wake Forest native and former Wake Forest Police Officer Joey McCrea Wiggins, who died in 2006. The Wake Forest Police Department donated $200,000 toward the $730,000 playground and sprayground project using funds raised over 20 years through golf tournaments, car shows, and other community fundraisers. The playground includes wheelchair-friendly access, sensory-friendly equipment, a rubber surface, ramps, police-themed play pieces, and a perimeter fence. The sprayground will run Monday-Saturday from 10 AM to 8 PM and Sundays from 1 PM to 8 PM.

🎬 Family Movie Night: Zootopia 2 📍 E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Rd, Wake Forest | Saturday, June 13 | pre-show 7:30 PM, movie 8:30 PM | FREE

Joyner Park gets the blanket-and-lawn-chair treatment Saturday night with Zootopia 2 on the big outdoor screen. The town lists pre-show activities beginning at 7:30 PM and showtime at 8:30 PM.

This is free and family-friendly, but viewing space can fill up. Bring chairs or a blanket, snacks, bug spray, and a flashlight for the walk back to the car.

🏒 Stanley Cup Final: Canes vs. Golden Knights 📍 Lenovo Center, ABC, and local watch parties | Thursday, June 11, Sunday, June 14, and Wednesday, June 17 if needed | 8 PM | ticketed / TV

The Canes pulled the series back to 2-2 with a 5-3 Game 4 win in Vegas, which means Game 5 in Raleigh is massive. Carolina has home ice for Thursday’s swing game, then the series shifts back to Vegas for Game 6 if needed.

White Street has been hosting Canes watch parties during the Cup Final, and this is the week when those TVs matter. Game 7, if needed, would bring the whole thing back to Raleigh on Wednesday.

🚧 Road & Business Notes: NC-98 and Bowling Forest 📍 Wake Forest and east of town | through this week and beyond | plan ahead

Two NC-98 notes are worth your attention. In Wake Forest, crews continue to reduce Wait Avenue/NC 98 to one lane with intermittent two-way traffic near Middlegame Way/Bowling Forest from 9 AM to 4 PM through June. Beginning Wednesday, June 17, Bowling Forest will also close daily from Wait Avenue/NC 98 to Fern Hollow Trail during those same work hours, while Wait Avenue itself remains open.

East of town, DriveNC and local reports show a full NC-98 closure beginning Monday, June 15, between NC-96 and US-401. That is not your everyday downtown Wake Forest delay, but it matters if you head toward Franklin County, Zebulon, Louisburg, or points east.
