Costume weekend is here, a full week before Halloween: Saturday alone has more trunk-or-treats and fall festivals than we could fit in one email. Blackbird throws a free Little Monsters party with dinosaurs and a magician, Burnt Barrel brings back its Great Inflatable Race in downtown Youngsville, and Rolesville raises a glass to Greenway Beer & Wine on its very last day. Sunday, Exchange Church sets up 18 carnival booths for a Hootenanny in Rolesville, and the State Fair wraps up its run in Raleigh. The Canes finally come home Tuesday for their first home game in two weeks. Weather note: sunny nearly every day, highs from the mid-60s to low 70s, but nights dip into the low 40s, so pack a jacket for the State Fair fireworks.

Put the kids in costume and head to Blackbird, which opens the taproom early for a free afternoon of Halloween fun. A walk-around dinosaur experience kicks it off from 11 to noon, Michael Douglas brings his comedy magic show from 12:30 to 1:30, Kathi's Klowns twist balloons from 1 to 3, and face painting runs 1 to 4. It's an easy first stop on a Saturday packed with trunk-or-treats.
🏁 The 2nd Annual Great Inflatable Race at Burnt Barrel

Youngsville's silliest race is back. Picture grown adults in inflatable costumes racing through downtown Youngsville, with DJ Crash calling the action, food trucks, and a lot party at Burnt Barrel. Expect some downtown street closures during the race, so park a block or two away and walk in.
🍻 Greenway's Last Call (and Rolesville Dairy Co.'s First Scoop)

This is it: Saturday is the final day for Greenway's Rolesville taproom after more than seven years. Come raise one last pint in that big backyard. Mr. Cheese Steak is serving from 2 to 6, DJ Cullen James spins from 2 to 4, and Jeremy Burns plays from 4 to 6. Rolesville Dairy Co., the family-owned ice cream and candy shop taking over the space, is handing out free ice cream and gifts.

Exchange Church is turning the Rolesville Elementary lot into a free fall carnival on Sunday afternoon: 18 carnival-game booths, grilled hot dogs, music, prizes and plenty of candy. It's a great second outing for the costumes after Saturday. If you're on the Wake Forest side of town, Wake Forest United Methodist and St. John's Episcopal both run trunk-or-treats from 3 to 5 the same afternoon.
🎡 Worth the Drive: The State Fair's Final Weekend
📍 NC State Fairgrounds, 4285 Trinity Rd, Raleigh | Through Sunday, October 25 | 9 AM to 11 PM (11:30 PM Friday and Saturday), no entry after 9:45 PM | $13 adults at the gate
Last call for the fair, too: it closes Sunday night. Thursday is Hunger Relief Day, when you get in free with six nonperishable food items at any gate. The weekend forecast is sunny with highs in the mid-to-upper 60s, which is about as good as fair weather gets, and fireworks go off every night at 9:45 over the Heritage Circle pond.

Ghost walk update: the Spirits of Wake Forest tours this Thursday and Friday are sold out, and so are next week's. Saturday, October 24 is your last chance, and as of Wednesday only the 7 PM and 8:30 PM tours had seats left ($20). Get More Info Here

The Canes Come Home
The Hurricanes are 8-2-1 and sitting first in the Metropolitan Division, three games into a five-game western road trip (2-1 so far). Two more road games this week, then Tuesday night they're finally back at Lenovo Center for the first time since October 13, with Boston in town on national TV. Next Thursday (October 29) is the Canes' Halloween Celebration night against Columbus, if you want to plan ahead.
