Good morning, W.Y.R. neighbors! Big downtown week ahead: Meet in the Street takes over Wake Forest on Saturday with food, vendors, music, kids stuff, Engine Alley, and a beer garden, while HerbFest comes back for its final weekend just down the road. The Wake Forest Listening Room has Van Meter + Jack the Radio on Friday, Six Sundays rolls into week two with The Soul Psychedelique Orchestra, and Rolesville gets a fresh round of Monday programs at the Community Center. Youngsville families still get their library rhythm this week with ABC Craft & Learn, STEAM Free Play, storytime, and Afternoon Adventures.

In today’s edition of The WYRe:

  • Meet in the Street brings the big downtown Wake Forest Saturday

  • HerbFest wraps up its 27th annual run this weekend

  • Six Sundays returns with The Soul Psychedelique Orchestra

  • Weather for the week, sports, live music, and more!

Let's get to it.

THE DIGEST

🌳 Meet in the Street 2026 πŸ“ Downtown Wake Forest, South White St.Β area | Saturday, May 2 | 10 AM to 4 PM | FREE

Wake Forest’s 44th annual Meet in the Street is the week’s heavyweight. Downtown fills up with Foodie Fairway, Dessert Court, Young Entrepreneurs, Small Business Alley, Children’s Village, arts and crafts vendors, live music, and new-this-year extras like Artisan Village, Engine Alley, and a beer garden. Roads around South White, Owen, East Jones, and Brooks will be impacted from early morning into the evening, so park with a plan. Saturday’s forecast is the one thing trying to be difficult, so check before you head out.

🌿 Wake Forest HerbFest 2026, Final Weekend πŸ“ 530 S White St, Wake Forest | Friday, May 1 to Sunday, May 3 | Fri-Sat 9 AM to 6 PM, Sun 10 AM to 4 PM | FREE

Last call for the 27th annual HerbFest. Organic herbs, veggie starts, perennials, native plants, food trucks, vendors, and the kind of spring plant impulse buys that somehow become your whole Saturday. Friday is probably your cleanest weather window and best bet for calmer browsing. Sunday looks sunnier if you want the closing-day stroll.

Cinco de Mayo weekend

  • Cinco de Mayo Celebration | Lonerider Wake Forest | 12 PM

  • Cinco de Mayo | Blackbird Brewery | 3-10 PMΒ

  • Kids Eat for $0.99 with a paid adult meal at Carolina Ale House

🎸 Van Meter + Jack the Radio πŸ“ Wake Forest Listening Room at Magnolia Roots, 415 Brooks St | Friday, May 1 | Doors 6:45 PM, show 7:30 PM | $28.25

This is the grown-up music pick of the week. Jennifer Van Meter brings rootsy, road-tested songwriting with a band sound that lives somewhere near Tom Petty and the Pretenders. Raleigh’s Jack the Radio adds swampy Southern rock, blues, Americana, folk, and country. Small room, strong bill, all ages.

🎷 Six Sundays in Spring: The Soul Psychedelique Orchestra πŸ“ Joyner Park Amphitheater, 701 Harris Rd, Wake Forest | Sunday, May 3 | 5:30 to 7:30 PM | FREE

Week two of Six Sundays brings The Soul Psychedelique Orchestra to Joyner Park. Bring the kids, friends, a picnic and a blanket and settle in for some foot-tapping, finger-snapping good times! You are invited to pack a picnic and enjoy the music. Several food truck vendors will also be onsite during each concert.

Canes Sweep, Then Wait

The Canes swept Ottawa out of Round 1, which means this week is less about game dates and more about watching the bracket. As of draft time, Carolina’s official playoff page had not posted a Round 2 schedule or opponent. Good problem to have.

πŸ’ Round 2 schedule | Hurricanes | Opponent, dates, and broadcast TBD
