Good morning, W.Y.R. neighbors! Hottest week of the summer so far: we’re staring down 98 degrees on Thursday AND Friday, so every plan below comes with a “bring water” asterisk. The good stuff is worth sweating for, though. Joyner Park rolls out a free Mufasa movie night under the stars Saturday, Bud’s Tavern in Youngsville hosts a full-blown Battle of the Bands with four acts duking it out, and Cary lands its first international rugby match in over a decade when the USA Eagles host Spain Saturday night. Storms finally break the heat Sunday, so front-load your outdoor plans. Get out there (early, with sunscreen).
In today’s edition of The WYRe:
A free Mufasa movie night under the stars at Joyner Park
Youngsville’s Backroad Battle of the Bands takes over Bud’s Tavern
Weather for the week, sports, live music, and more!
Let's get to it.

THE DIGEST

🦁 Family Movie Night at Joyner Park: Mufasa: The Lion King 📍 E. Carroll Joyner Park Amphitheater, 701 Harris Rd, Wake Forest | Saturday, July 18 | Pre-show activity 7:30 PM, movie 8:30 PM | FREE
The town’s summer movie series continues with Mufasa on the 32-foot inflatable screen. Bring blankets and chairs, come at 7:30 for the kids’ pre-show activity, and note the house rules: no alcohol, no smoking, and dogs stay home. It’ll still be toasty at showtime (Saturday hits 97), so pack cold drinks. If Saturday doesn’t work, Downtown Cary Park runs a free Finding Nemo night Friday at 8:30 PM.

🎸 Backroad Battle of the Bands at Bud’s Tavern 📍 Bud’s Tavern, 823 Youngsville Blvd S, Youngsville | Saturday, July 18 | 5 to 10 PM | Free entry, donations buy voting privileges
Youngsville’s loudest night of the summer. Four bands (Riffium, Attic Labs, Intervallum, and Throwback) battle it out for a judge panel while the crowd votes with donation dollars, all benefiting a local nonprofit. Food trucks and a vendor market round it out. Five hours of live music for free on a Saturday night 10 minutes up the road? Easy call.

🎶 The Triangle’s Big-Stage Week 📍 Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek, Raleigh (and friends) | Thursday, July 16 to Wednesday, July 22 | Ticketed
Walnut Creek alone runs Train with Barenaked Ladies Thursday, Phish Friday (the big one, expect traffic on Rock Quarry Rd), and Death Cab for Cutie with Japanese Breakfast next Wednesday. Add Lindsey Stirling at Red Hat Amphitheater Friday, Tori Amos at DPAC Monday, and Broadway’s The Notebook at DPAC through Sunday, and there’s a big-room show for every taste this week. Pick your flavor and grab tickets before the heat does.
