🌳 The Historic Half Marathon is back

Good morning, W.Y.R. neighbors! I think I jinxed us last week hoping the groundhog hadn’t see his shadow, becasuse it got COLD. Hope y’all stayed warm and didn’t walk outside in shorts and a t-shirt only to run right back inside. This weekend looks like we are in for good weather, which is well-timed since outdoor activities are starting to pick up.

🏃‍♂️ Wake Forest Historic Half Marathon – Half Marathon & 7K
Wake Forest | Saturday, Feb 28 | 7:30 AM for the Half Marathon / 7:45 AM for the 7K

Lace up, Wake Forest! The Wake Forest Historic 13.1 returns on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, bringing runners through some of the most scenic and historic parts of our community. Participants can choose between the Half Marathon (13.1 miles) or the 7K, making it a great option for seasoned runners and casual participants alike.

The Half Marathon race kicks off at 7:30 AM and the 7K at 7:45 AM in downtown Wake Forest and highlights the charm of our historic streets, local landmarks, and growing community. Whether you’re chasing a PR or just running for fun, this event is designed for all runners.

Even better, this is a pet-friendly and stroller-friendly race. Organizers simply ask that runners with dogs or strollers line up toward the back of the starting queue to help avoid trips and congestion at the start.

Originally scheduled for January but rescheduled due to winter storms. Features music, dance, storytelling, and vendors, celebrating the contributions of African Americans to North Carolina. 25 years running. It’s free and it’s worth the drive.
