Good morning, W.Y.R. neighbors!

October comes in hot and ends the week crisp. Friday morning, the Stanley Cup itself stops at the Rolesville Community Center for one hour, no registration needed. Saturday is Wake Forest’s big day: the third annual Diwali Festival fills Joyner Park from noon to 3, White Street taps its Oktoberfest lager with stein hoisting on the hour, Firebox Theatre’s “Misery” plays the Renaissance Centre all weekend, and Norse closes the night with stand-up comedy.

Out in Rolesville, Paws on the Run brings a 5K and a dog-costume parade Saturday morning, and Youngsville’s Panic Point opens its haunted forest Friday and Saturday nights. Both police departments throw block parties next week, Wake Forest on Monday and Rolesville on Tuesday. If you want a bigger day, Raleigh Wide Open fills Fayetteville Street with free music all weekend.

In today’s edition of The WYRe:

  • The Stanley Cup’s hour in Rolesville Friday, plus National Night Out in Wake Forest and Rolesville

  • Diwali, Oktoberfest, “Misery,” and comedy on Wake Forest’s big Saturday

  • Worth the drive: free music at Raleigh Wide Open and a fall market at Dix Park

  • Weather for the week, sports, live music, and more!

Let’s get to it.

THE DIGEST

🪔 Diwali Festival at Joyner Park
📍 E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Rd, Wake Forest | Saturday, October 3 | 12 to 3 PM (yoga 11 to 11:45 AM) | FREE

The Town’s third annual Diwali Festival brings the Festival of Lights to Joyner Park with music, dance performances, hands-on crafts, board games, a cricket demonstration, a henna artist, and food and dessert trucks. Start with the free yoga session at the amphitheater from 11 to 11:45 (bring a mat and water). Chairs and blankets welcome; alcohol, grills, and unleashed pets are not. Rain chances climb Saturday afternoon, so the first half is your best window.

🍺 Downtown Wake Forest Saturday: Oktoberfest, “Misery,” and Punchlines + Pints
📍 White Street Brewing, 218 S White St; Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S Brooks St; Norse Brewing, downtown | Saturday, October 3 | Oktoberfest 12 to 4 PM, “Misery” 2 and 7:30 PM, comedy 7 to 9 PM | Oktoberfest FREE to attend, “Misery” from $25, comedy ticketed

White Street’s Oktoberfest runs noon to 4 with brats, steins, lederhosen, and the release of its Oktoberfest lager. A stein hoisting contest runs every hour, and the winner goes to the state competition in Charlotte. Firebox Theatre Company’s “Misery” has two shows Saturday (2 and 7:30) at the Renaissance Centre, plus Friday at 7:30 and a Sunday matinee at 2. Norse hosts Punchlines + Pints, a stand-up comedy night, from 7 to 9 with limited tickets. One heads-up: the Spirits of Wake Forest ghost walks start this week, but Eventbrite shows this weekend’s tours as sold out.

🏆 The Cup Comes to Rolesville, Then Two National Night Outs
📍 Rolesville Community Center, 514 Southtown Cir (Cup); Joyner Park Community Center lot, 701 Harris Rd, Wake Forest (Mon); Redford Place Park, 121 Redford Place Dr, Rolesville (Tue) | Friday, October 2; Monday, October 5; Tuesday, October 6 | Cup 10 to 11 AM, Wake Forest NNO 5 to 7:30 PM, Rolesville NNO 5:30 to 7:30 PM | FREE

The Stanley Cup is in Rolesville for one hour Friday morning, no registration and first come, first served, and staff will snap the photo on your phone. Park at Town Hall, Redford Place Park, Main Street Park, or the Thales Academy overflow lot (no curb or grass parking). Wake Forest’s Cup visit that afternoon is for the 80 lottery winners only. Then it’s block party week. Wake Forest PD’s National Night Out on Monday brings fire and police vehicles, a DJ, games, food, a K-9 demo, and D.A.R.E. Rolesville’s on Tuesday has free food, games, and music at Redford Place Park.

🎻 Worth the Drive: Raleigh Wide Open and Falling for Local
📍 Fayetteville St, Downtown Raleigh; The Big Field at Dix Park, 1030 Richardson Dr, Raleigh | Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3 | Wide Open 12 to 11 PM both days, Falling for Local Sat 11 AM to 6 PM | FREE

PineCone’s Raleigh Wide Open takes over downtown with free bluegrass, Americana, folk, R&B, norteño, and gospel on multiple stages, plus an art market and family zone. Acts include Jim Lauderdale, The Fairfield Four, and Shinyribs. Saturday you can pair it with Falling for Local at Dix Park: a vendor market, food truck rodeo, kids’ activities, free pumpkins, and hayrides. Use Dix Park’s free shuttle, because roads around the park will be closed. Want a ticket instead? Indigo Girls play Memorial Auditorium Saturday, and Weezer, The Shins, and Silversun Pickups play Lenovo Center Sunday.
