Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, and our towns are turning it into a three-day party. Friday is the big night: Youngsville turns Main Street into one long trick-or-treat route, Blackbird throws its Boos & Brews costume party, and Rolesville rolls out a free Beetlejuice screening at Mill Bridge. Saturday and Sunday are Hill Ridge Farms' last pumpkin festival weekend, and The Cotton Company kicks off holiday shopping downtown all weekend. Over in sports, Wake Forest heads to Heritage Friday night with the conference title on the line. Weather note: it's dry and in the mid-70s right through Halloween night, then clocks fall back early Sunday and showers are possible Sunday, so get your outdoor fun in early.

Youngsville's downtown turns into one big trick-or-treat route Friday afternoon, with storefronts handing out candy from Five Points down Main Street. There's pumpkin decorating, the Town's haunted house in the Community House (4 to 7), a magic show on the Yacht Club stage at 5, a costume contest on the HomeSlice stage at 6 (kids, teens, adults and groups), and parking-lot trunk-or-treats until 7. Bring a canned good for The Journey Ministry's food pantry, and come early since the candy runs 4 to 6.
🦇 Boos & Brews Halloween Party at Blackbird

Blackbird's grown-up Halloween party is the place to show off a costume before the big night. K-Bomb & the Kool Whips play from 7 to 10, and there are costume contests through the evening. Friday's forecast is clear and in the 70s, so the patio should be packed.

Rolesville's movie season wraps with the perfect Halloween-eve pick: Beetlejuice (PG) under the stars, with JAM Ice Cream on site. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair. Heads up: the screening moved from October 23, and some event sites still show the old date, so Friday is the one. Make a full night of it by starting at Cobblestone Village's Halloween in the Village (5 to 7 PM) just up the road.
🎃 Hill Ridge Farms' Last Pumpkin Weekend

Hill Ridge is calling this its last fall festival weekend, so this is the one to catch (after Sunday, the farm runs shorter weekday hours, 9:30 AM to 2 PM, Wednesday through Friday, November 4 to 6). Admission gets you a hayride out to the patch with a free pumpkin, plus the train, carousel and the rest of the farm, and the homemade donuts alone are worth the trip. Tickets are sold at the gate, so go early Saturday morning to beat the trick-or-treat crowd. Then the farm comes back Thanksgiving night for its Festival of Lights.

Downtown's favorite gift shop is already in holiday mode. The Cotton Company's three-day open house has festive music, warm cider and treats, vendor demos, and new gift bags for holiday giving. It's an easy stop between Halloween festivities, and a head start on the shopping list.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. Polls are open 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM statewide (Wake and Franklin counties alike), and on Election Day you vote at your assigned precinct, not your early-voting site. A Title on the Line in Wake Forest
Friday night's regular-season finale is a big one in our backyard: Wake Forest (7-2) heads across town to Heritage (5-4), and both teams are 4-0 in the Northern Six, so the winner takes the conference title. The Cougars have won six straight, and the Huskies have won four. Rolesville (6-2-1) closes its regular season at Enloe the same night, and playoff brackets are expected after the weekend. The Canes are home twice this week too, with Halloween night Thursday and Kids Day Sunday afternoon.
